pop of color

Love the way the scarf jumps out against the outfit and the casual cool of the converse.  And the green sweater takes the plain outfit to a whole new level.

Alexander Wang Natasha Pump

One of the only things I will spend money on are shoes.  Shoes are the ultimate accessory.  They can completely transform an outfit and are miraculous little pieces of architecture and design within themselves.  So on this chilly Monday afternoon I found my latest shoe crush at Barneys.  I had just dropped in to see what new spring merchandise was out and I promised myself I would look but not touch.  Yeah... that never works when you are a shoe addict like myself.  I didn't even see the beautiful Alexander Wang heels at first.  I initially picked up the shoe in black and did not even notice the nude.  What with 90% of my wardrobe being black, I naturally grabbed the black heel first and requested my size.  They are a great mix between a bootie and a pump.  They are slightly 80s, perfectly edgy and have a creative balance of leather and patent materials.  And what should happen?  The 9 does not fit.  I am visibly upset so the very nice man says he has the next size up, but in a different color.  I am hesitant to try it on, but he insists.  Minutes later, out come these beautiful shoes in the tan version.  The leather is so buttery soft I feel like it will melt in my hands and the material is delicately sculpted to resemble snake skin.  They are so dramatically different than the black version, it's no surprise I didn't notice them.  I have been so fine tuned to look for black shoes because I know that they will go with everything I own.  And when I'm spending a considerable amount of money, the shoes better be able to go with everything.  But then again, I realized, tan can serve the same purpose as a black shoe.  These tan shoes match my skin so well that I slip them on and my legs have magically grown several inches (being 5'3'' that is fine by me).  These tan pumps will be a refreshing breath of air to my shoe collection.  You don't always have to wear a black heel with everything, tan can match everything just as well.
I hate to say it, but the picture just does not do these heels justice and I highly recommend checking them out yourselves for your spring wardrobe.  I can't wait to throw these on with a little black dress, my leather leggings, and my skinny jeans and show them off to the world.

not your average nail color

These days, nail polish has become a bit more exciting.  The rules are gradually going out the window.  Long gone is the era of pale pink in the summer and spring, reds in the fall and dark burgundy in the winter.  Graphics and designs on your nails are now not just for the little girls who buy the cheap sick-ons from the drug store.  Neon nails, striped patterns, electric blues and vibrant greens have jumped onto the scene.  I've seen neon pink in the winter (what?!), deep dark purples in the summer (really?), and short black nails on women who are very far from being goth (no!).  So now what is the latest craze that's sweeping the nation?  Well, I'm not really sure what to call it.  One might say sea foam green, another might say pale turquoise.  I've seen it all over my favorite fashion blogs and on the lovely and talented style icon, Alexa Chung, and it is safe to say, I've found true love.  When you first put this color on, it's so out of the ordinary it is mildly frightening.  But when you slip on your black, dark brown, metallic, tan, whatever color peep toe heels or sandals, your toe nails pop out in the most delightful way.  This surprising ice blue-green (the color of oxidized copper, perhaps?) looks oh-so modern and makes everyone glance twice at your gorgeous feet in an attempt to identify that mesmerizing color.
